Immediate response required by residents

Annual voter registration forms will be sent out next week and residents are being asked to respond by the deadline in order to help save money.

From 10 August, annual voter registration forms will arrive at each of the 56,000 properties in Waveney and 61,000 properties in Suffolk Coastal.

The law requires all residents to confirm or update the details of anyone at the address who is eligible to vote in the UK each year, to ensure they remain registered to vote for future elections.

The forms are pre-printed with the names of those currently registered to vote in each household but it is essential that residents respond immediately to confirm that the details are correct or to make any changes. Even if you voted in the recent elections, you must still respond - by 19 August in Waveney and by 29 August in Suffolk Coastal.

Arthur Charvonia, Waveney’s Electoral Registration Officer said:

"We are urging Waveney residents to respond immediately to confirm their details. The easiest and cheapest way to do this is via the dedicated website or by calling the free phone number. It is quick and simple for residents but also saves money for the Council.

Canvassing every property in Waveney is a legal necessity however it is costly and so we are urging residents to help us save money wherever possible by responding to their form online by 19 August. This will reduce the number of avoidable reminder letters we need to issue which will ultimately save taxpayer’s money.

In 2015, more than half of Waveney households responded before the deadline (54%) which is a great result however of those, just 9.8% responded using the website and only 6% used the free-phone number. Responding online is so much easier than returning your form by post and if everyone does this it will save over £16,000 of tax payers’ money.”

Stephen Baker, Suffolk Coastal’s Electoral Registration Officer, said:

“Please don’t ignore the letters we’re sending out. You need to respond even if the information is correct by 29 August. You can do so quickly online or by phoning or texting.

I want to encourage our residents to return their forms back to us as quickly as possible to reduce the number of reminder letters we need to issue. By doing so you’re helping us save money and helping to look after the environment too!”

Waveney residents:

Please respond online before 19 August 2016.

Alternatively, please call free-phone 0800 197 9871 to confirm your details are the same.

To change the details on your form, the quickest and easiest way to do so is via www.householdresponse.com/waveney.

Suffolk Coastal residents:

If there are no changes to be made, there are 3 different ways to confirm your details:
- Go to www.elecreg.co.uk/suffolkcoastal
- Call free-phone 0808 284 1563
- Text 07537 410063

To change the details on your form:
