Suffolk Coastal District Council has welcomed a new face to its Cabinet.
Cllr Stuart Lawson is to join Cabinet, taking over the portfolio for Resources, Suffolk Coastal’s Leader, Cllr Ray Herring, announced at the Cabinet meeting last night (Tuesday, 1 November, 2016).
This increases the total number of Cabinet Members from eight to nine.
Cllr Herring explained:
“We are entering an incredibly busy period, with many major projects such as mergers, devolution, new office accommodation and possible Sizewell C consultation all on the horizon,
This is an opportune time to bring on board a new Cabinet Member and increase the size of our Cabinet team. Stuart has a background in project management and brings with him a wealth of valuable experience, as well as plenty of energy and a new way of looking at issues.
It also allows me to reduce the workload of Andy Smith, who has suffered from some recent health issues, while still keeping his expertise and commitment at the heart of Cabinet.”
Cllr Lawson is a Conservative and represents the Kesgrave West ward. He is also Vice-Chairman of the Enabling Communities Task Group and a Kesgrave Town Councillor. He sits on the Licensing and Health Committee, Policy Development Task Group and Enabling Communities Task Group.
Responsibility for Economic Development is transferred from Cllr Andy Smith to Deputy Leader, Cllr Geoff Holdcroft (who previously held the Resources portfolio). Cllr Smith retains responsibility for Coastal Management.
