With important remedial work underway to repair and improve the Thoroughfare Car Park in Halesworth, Waveney District Council is offering visitors to the town an hour’s free parking for the duration of the scheme.
Increasing concerns had been raised about the collecting and pooling of water in the car park and so the decision was taken to undertake remedial work at the first opportunity. However, as Cllr Stephen Ardley - Cabinet member for Operational Services – explained, the council was determined to ensure that any impacts on local businesses were minimised.
He said:
“The work must be undertaken to ensure the car park is brought back to the standard required, however we entirely understand that the brief closure could affect local businesses, which is why we have decided to offer a first hour free in the town’s other council car parks.
“We are committed to supporting the town’s local economy and making sure that we do everything in our powers to help businesses when issues arise.”
The work is likely to last for around seven days and one hour’s free parking will be offered until the work to repair the Thoroughfare Car Park is completed.
