Parents and carers have until Tuesday 31 October to submit their application to secure their child’s place at a Suffolk secondary school for September 2018.
Last year, Suffolk County Council received 7,171 applications from parents and carers indicating which secondary school they would prefer their child to be educated at from September 2017 in Year 7.
More than 93% of applicants received offers for their first preference school and 98% of applicants received an offer for one of their top three preferred schools.
Last year, 91% of applications for a place in Year 7 from September 2017 were made online, a 19% increase since 2015.
Councillor Gordon Jones, Suffolk County Council’s Cabinet Member for Children's Services, Education and Skills, said:
“Moving from primary to secondary education is a big step in any child’s life and making the right school choice is one of the most important decisions a parent makes on behalf of their child.
“I would urge all parents and carers to complete and submit their application by the closing date of 31 October to give them the best chance of securing a place at one of their preferred schools.
Parents and carers can list up to three schools on the application form and we recommend applying for more than one school.”
It is recommended that parents and carers apply online as they will receive confirmation that we have received their application. Alternatively, parents and carers can apply on a paper CAF1 application form. We are unable to acknowledge receipt of paper applications and therefore suggest that proof of posting is obtained.
A completed application must be submitted for every child wanting a Year 7 place at a high school or a Year 9 place at an upper school from September 2018. If you are planning to move house or you think your circumstances may change before September, it is still important to make an application on time. Advice and guidance about this process is available on the Suffolk County Council website.
Families who apply online will be able to log on to the Online Service on the National Offer Day, 1st March 2018 to see their school place offer, and will also receive an email to confirm this offer on the same day. Offer letters will also be sent by second class post to all applicants, including those who made a paper application.
Information to help parents and carers make their application is also available on the Suffolk County Council website.
