Breast Cancer Care is calling on cyclists in Suffolk to take part in the OVO Energy Tour Ride on Sunday 1 July 2018 to raise funds for the charity.
The OVO Energy Tour Ride supporting Breast Cancer Care is inspired by Stage One of the OVO Energy Women’s Tour, which returns to Suffolk in 2018. It gives cycling fans the perfect opportunity to ride along the same roads as world champions and top professionals.
The Tour Ride will start and finish in Southwold, and give members of the public the chance to ride either 30 or 80 miles across largely flat terrain.
For just £15, men and women of all levels of experience can enjoy a great day of cycling while fundraising on behalf of Breast Cancer Care. Additionally, regular exercise, such as cycling, may help to reduce your risk of developing breast cancer.
The official charity partner of the Women’s Tour, Breast Cancer Care is the only UK-wide charity providing care, support and information for the 62,000 people diagnosed with breast cancer every year. The charity is aiming to raise over £86,000 through its partnership and involvement in the event.
Claire Pulford, Head of Events at Breast Cancer Care said:
“As someone who grew up in Suffolk, I am particularly pleased that Breast Cancer Care will be charity partner for the Women’s Tour for a second year, bringing cycling to the beautiful Suffolk countryside. More than 500 people in Suffolk will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year and the funds raised from the Tour Ride will help our charity continue to support and make a positive difference to these people and the lives of the thousands of people facing breast cancer in the UK.
“Please do get on your bike and join us for a fun sporting challenge on 1 July to support Breast Cancer Care. It doesn’t matter if you’re a regular cyclist or haven’t looked at your bike in ten years - we will support you all the way.”
In a joint statement, Cllr TJ Haworth-Culf, Suffolk Coastal District Council’s Cabinet Member for Customers, Communities and Leisure and Cllr Michael Ladd, Waveney District Council’s Cabinet Member for Tourism and Economic Development said:
“As well as hosting the start and finish of the opening stage of the OVO Energy Women's Tour, we are honoured to be hosting the OVO Energy Tour Ride in Southwold, in support of Breast Cancer Care. The Ride will give cycling fans the opportunity to ride through the beautiful east Suffolk countryside and raise money, and awareness, for this excellent cause.”
Cllr Tony Goldson, Suffolk County Council’s Cabinet member for Health said:
“We are delighted to be hosting the opening stage of this year’s OVO Energy Women’s Tour, welcoming the tour back to Suffolk for a fourth year. The Tour Ride offers residents and visitors to the county a chance to ride the route, taking part in the prestigious international sporting event. It’s fantastic that we’ve already seen so many people sign up to the Tour Ride since the route was announced earlier this month.”
The OVO Energy Tour Ride supporting Breast Cancer Care takes place on Sunday 1 July, three weeks on from the opening stage of the OVO Energy Women’s Tour, Britain’s leading female cycle race and round of the UCI Women’s WorldTour.
