Local young people can now sign up for Waveney District Council’s popular programme of free children’s activities, which returns to Lowestoft at the end of this month.

Returning for a fifth consecutive summer, the activities are designed for children aged between nine and sixteen and are organised by the East Suffolk Communities Team in partnership with Suffolk Positive Futures.

Beginning on Tuesday 31 July, the activities will take place each Tuesday and Thursday on Lowestoft’s award-winning South Beach. Running until Thursday 30 August, activities will include tug of war, netball, tag rugby, dodgeball, cricket, rounders, futsal, volleyball, American football, climbing, boxing sessions with Ultimate Boxing and drama and musical theatre with the Marina Theatre. Activities will also be available for younger children aged 5-8, delivered with Inspire Suffolk.

Cllr Mary Rudd, Cabinet Member for Community Health and Safety said:

“Our popular free summer activities are back for another year and offer local children the chance to get outside in the sunshine, be active and stay occupied over the summer holidays.

We’re looking forward to seeing lots of local young people enjoying these activities on our beautiful beach this summer.”

Those interested can now sign up for the activities here. All events are offered on a ‘first come first served’ basis; booking is not required however signing up in advance saves time on arrival. Signing up online does not guarantee a place although the Communities Team will endeavour to accommodate as many children as possible at each session.

The activities begin at 1pm, with sign-in at 12.30pm at Beach Hut 121, south of Claremont Pier.

As well as the children’s activities, a new family fun hour will take place ahead of each session, from 11am to 12pm.

To conclude the activities, a beach party celebrating the 40th anniversary of Great Yarmouth and Waveney Mind will take place between 2pm-6pm on 30th August.
