East Suffolk residents, businesses and organisations are invited to join an open forum on sustainable travel next month.
Organised by the East Suffolk Greenprint Forum, the ‘Active and Sustainable Travel Open Forum’ takes place at East Suffolk House in Melton on Wednesday 5 June.
Attendees will be able to join in conversations about more sustainable ways of travelling including the role of electric vehicles, community car clubs and how local businesses can get involved. The event is open to all, including residents, town and parish Councillors, representatives from local organisations, groups and businesses.
The event, which runs from 6.30pm to 9.30pm, is being held to coincide with World Environment Day.
Jane Healey, Chair of the Greenprint Forum said: “Our overarching vision is for the people of East Suffolk to work together to improve our quality of life and living standards, while reducing our environmental impact.
“One of our nine environmental goals, on each of which we would like to see significant progress by 2030, is active and sustainable travel and this is our focus during 2019. There is a widely recognised and urgent need to act now, both locally and globally, on the threat of climate change, part of which means that we need to have a serious look at how we can travel more sustainably whilst living more active lives and helping improve air quality.
“Our aim is to enable a shift towards smarter travel habits where low emissions travel dominates, and where our physical and mental health is improved through active travel solutions such as walking and cycling.”
Phil Gore, Head of Environmental Services and Port Health at East Suffolk Council said: “This event will give local residents, businesses and communities the opportunity to participate in a forward-looking conversation about how we can move towards more sustainable ways of getting about in East Suffolk. Given heightened concerns about the urgent need to address our impact on climate change and air quality, we would encourage people to book their place for this important event.”
The Greenprint Forum is a voluntary network facilitated by East Suffolk Council to enable community environmental action to improve lives and strengthen our economy.
