They’re cleaning up on Felixstowe beach – thanks to a handy new piece of kit.
The new ‘two minute beach clean’ board, located at the Visit Felixstowe Tourist Information Centre beach hut (opposite Felixstowe Town Hall) is proving to be a huge success with the public.
Since its launch at this year’s Art on the Prom, at the start of September, the litter grabbers and bags provided at the board have been taken out by all ages to collect and clean areas of the beach at Felixstowe.
Felixstowe’s two minute beach clean board is the first and currently only one of its type in the county of Suffolk.
Helen Greengrass, Felixstowe Forward Change Director said:
“We are thrilled with the way the board has taken off. There was extensive coverage of its launch on social media and, during Art on the Prom, a queue developed as visitors waited to give-it-a-go. It’s a great and fun way to engage and encourage people to keep our lovely beaches at Felixstowe clean and pristine.”
So, if you are walking along the prom or you have time to spare during your lunch hour… all it takes is just two minutes to do your bit!
Alongside the beach clean board, there are regular litter picks to join at Felixstowe, Landguard and Trimley Marshes nature reserves. Several local organisations and groups, such as the Rotary Club and the Felixstowe Society, organise events too.
Our partners Suffolk Coastal Norse are always happy to work with community groups and volunteers across the district to tackle litter. They organise and provide equipment to the annual spring clean litter picking events and to organisations that undertake litter picks throughout the year.
If you want to organise a litter pick anywhere in the District, contact Norse on 01394 444000. As well as providing the equipment, Norse will also arrange to take the rubbish away afterwards.
The 2 minute clean board is on display and available for us whenever the Visit Felixstowe Beach Hut is open for business. The hut is open all year round, normally between 11am – 3pm, unless there is poor weather.
