Following further easing of lockdown restrictions, Waterlane Leisure Centre is preparing to welcome back members next week.
Following the latest Government announcement, East Suffolk Council and Sentinel Leisure Trust can now announce that Waterlane Leisure Centre in Lowestoft will be partly re-opening for members on Monday 3 August. Opening times will initially be 7am-7pm Monday to Friday and 8am-4pm on Saturday and Sunday.
The first areas to be re-opened are the fitness suite and group exercise studios, which will be followed by the pool and other areas at a later date, which has yet to be confirmed.
To ensure a safe re-opening for members and staff alike, a number of new safety measures and cleaning regimes will be put in place, as well as social distancing measures.
This includes new hand sanitiser stations, which all members are encouraged to use, and cleaning stations to clean equipment before and after use, as well as marked one-way systems.
In a joint statement, Cllr Letitia Smith, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Cllr Stephen Burroughes, Cabinet Member for Operational Partnerships, said: “We know that many people have missed it and are keen to get back to their fitness regimes, so it is great news that we are now able to confirm the re-opening of Waterlane Leisure Centre for members.
“Of course, things will be a little different when the facility re-opens, but we want to reassure people that that the safety of members and staff is our first priority and every step has been taken to ensure we can re-open as safely as possible.
“We hope that everyone will enjoy the leisure facilities but also act responsibly so that other members and staff can have a safe and positive experience.”
Claire Henwood, Chief Executive of Sentinel Leisure Trust said: “Monday will see the end of a long period of closure at Waterlane and we are incredibly excited to see staff and customers return. We are committed to ensuring your safety and have worked hard to make the most of the available space we have, ensuring social distancing is observed.
“We would like to thank East Suffolk Council for their support throughout lockdown in helping us, as a local charity, to guide our staff through a difficult period and also giving us the opportunity to open our doors again.”
All activities will be operated in 60 minute sessions, which must be pre-booked via www.waterlanelc.co.uk
There will be a 30-minute changeover period between all sessions to allow members to exit their session safely and for staff to clean the facilities before the next sessions.
Members are advised to arrive no earlier than 10 minutes before their session and in their workout clothes, as the changing facilities will remain closed for now. All toilets will be open.
