On 20 June 2016 Suffolk Coastal District Council submitted two development plan documents to the Planning Inspectorate for independent examination (see the examination documents):
From this point on, the timetable for the examination is in the hands of the Planning Inspectorate.
This page will be updated on a regular basis with information on the progress of the examination, including any correspondence between the inspector and the council.
The Planning Inspectorate have appointed Mrs Elizabeth Hill BSc (Hons) BPHIL MRTPI to conduct an independent examination into the soundness of the submitted documents in accordance with the relevant legal requirements. The hearings took place between Tuesday 30 August and Friday 2 September in the Council Chamber, Melton Hill, Woodbridge, Suffolk, IP12 1AU.
To assist with this process the Council has appointed Annette Feeney as an independent Local Plan Programme Officer. A key role of the Programme Officer is to act as the sole link between the Planning Inspector and all other parties.

The Inspector has published a series of documents which outline the scope of the hearing sessions. The Guidance Note provides further information on the examination, key dates, contact details and requirements. These should be read alongside the Inspector’s Matters, Issues and Questions and provide information to assist with preparation for the hearing sessions. The Inspector’s note is for information relating to her remit with regards to the Core Strategy and Objectively Assessed Housing Need. The request for a Statement of Common Ground is between the Council and Ipswich Borough Council.
To ensure the Inspector and the Programme Officer have the appropriate information at the times required, a number of key dates are included below.
Inform the Programme Officer if you wish to appear before the Inspector – as soon as possible.
Submission of Statements on Inspector’s Matters, Issues and Questions – midday Friday 19th August.
Hearing sessions commence – 1pm Tuesday 30th August.
