Waveney garden waste collection

The Easy Green Bin Scheme is a subscription service that runs from 1 March to 28/29 February each year. Collections are made every two weeks, including most bank holidays, except Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Signing up for the Scheme is simple and the service costs only £42 for the whole year. You can sign-up for as many green bins as you like at £42 each.

You can now sign up or renew your subscription for the 2017/18 collection year - you will need a debit or credit card to pay for the service online.

Renewing your Easy Green Bin subscription

Existing customers will receive a letter or email explaining how to renew - if you have received an email, please click the red 'Activate your Self-Service Account' link within the email. Customers receiving a letter should click here to renew.

From Monday 16 January you will also be able to pay by calling the Waveney Customer Services team. Please have your debit or credit card ready when you call.

What will happen after I renew?

Towards the end of February, we will send out new date stickers to existing customers of the scheme. Please do not remove the orange sticker already on your green bin. The new sticker will cover the date on your existing Easy Green Bin sticker to show our collection crews that you have paid for 2017/18.

Please renew before 18 February if you would like to receive your new date sticker before the first collection is due.

What happens if I renew after 1 March?

The new collection year starts in March and the fee is £42 even if you join part way through the year. You can renew after that date but you might miss some collections. Please allow 10 working days for us to process your order and to get your new date sticker to you.

What happens if I don’t renew?

We will not empty your Easy Green Bin from 1 March if your bin is not displaying the new sticker.

If you don’t want to renew your subscription please tell us. We will let you know when you should leave your bin out for us to take it away.

Subscribing for the first time

You can now sign up for the 2017/18 collection year - you will need a debit or credit card to pay for the service online.

From Monday 16 January you will also be able to pay by calling the Waveney Customer Services team. Please have your debit or credit card ready when you call.

The service costs only £42 for the whole year. You can sign-up for as many green bins as you like at £42 each.

The subscription fee is non-refundable after the statutory 14 day cooling off period and the bin will be removed if you do not renew your subscription each year although we may allow a grace period of up to one month (until 1 April) before removing the bin from your property.

We are not accepting any more subscriptions for the 2016/17 collection period.

What happens after I subscribe to the scheme?

Easy Green Bin Sticker on Bin 150x240When you join the scheme for the first time, the number of bins you have ordered will be delivered to the property where you asked for the collection to be made.

You will also receive a vinyl sticker for each bin you have requested.

You will then need to:

  • Check that the address on the sticker is correct for the property where the collection is to be made
  • Carefully place the sticker on the side of the green bin, beneath the big handle as shown, so it is easily visible by the collection crews

Please DO NOT place the sticker on the bin lid. Displaying the sticker on the side of your green bin clearly identifies it for collection and also enables you to identify the bin(s) you have subscribed for. If your sticker is not easily visible, your garden waste may not be collected.

What can I put in my garden waste bin?

  • Grass, leaves and weeds
  • Flowers and plants
  • Hedge clippings
  • Branches (not more than 6cm thick)
  • Prunings and twigs
  • Windfall fruit
  • Hay/straw (bedding from non-meat eating animals only, such as rabbits
  • Vegetable waste from the garden (not kitchen waste)
  • Shredded paper

Please ensure that bin lids are fully closed as we will not collect bins with open lids which are overflowing because they can compromise the safety of our collection crews when lifted. If our crews cannot move the bin safely, they will not collect it. We do not accept waste placed at the side or on top of bin and we will not collect your garden waste if it is contaminated with non-garden waste.

Don't forget that you can also take your garden waste to the County Council's Household Waste Recycling Centres for recycling, free of charge.

What can I NOT put in my garden waste bin?

  • Food or kitchen waste
  • Soil
  • Cat or dog faeces
  • Vacuum dust or fire cinders
  • Oil, stones or rubble
  • Wood that has been treated or painted
  • Plastic flower pots, trays or bags
  • Invasive weeds such as Common Ragwort or Japanese Knotweed

What happens if my bin is lost or stolen?

Please check with your neighbours and in the local area first to see if the bin has been returned to the wrong place by mistake.

If your bin cannot be found you should report it as missing. You will be offered a replacement  but there will be a charge to cover administration and delivery of £28.

What happens if my bin is damaged or lost by the collection crew?

We will replace your bin free of charge if it is damaged or lost by the collection crew.

I don’t want to join the scheme, can I buy composting bins instead?

Yes. If you have the garden space for a compost bin it is an excellent way of recycling your garden waste and provides useful compost for your garden. You can buy composting bins from the Suffolk Recycling Partnership or at most garden centres.

What happens if I move house?

If you are moving to an address within the Waveney area and you still require the Easy Green Bin service, please:

  • Take your wheeled bin(s) with you when you move (you may need to agree this with your removal company)
  • Contact us with the date of the move and your new address so that a new sticker for each bin can be sent to you, showing your new address

If you are moving to an address outside the Waveney area or to an address where you no longer require the Easy Green Bin service, please contact us with the date you will be moving so that we can arrange to collect your unwanted bin(s).

We are sorry but we do not give part refunds of the subscription fee when the service is no longer required.
