At Suffolk Coastal and Waveney District Councils the Chairman of the Council is elected in May each year. They provide civic and ceremonial leadership of the Council by attending various functions on its behalf. They chair and manage the meetings of Full Council and ensure that the Councils’ Constitutions are upheld.
Once elected, the Chairman rises above party politics in chairing meetings of Full Council and acting as the Council’s representative at formal and less formal public engagements during their year of office. The Chairman of the Council wears a chain of office when carrying out most duties but, unlike a Mayor, does not have any formal robes.
If you would like to invite the Chairman of the Council to an event please address any invitations to the Chairman’s Secretary.
