Women on Wheels returned to Rendlesham for the second time in April and saw £571 raised for the Suffolk Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Girls and women of all ages took part in the event, with Melton WI and Butley and Chillesford WI donating homemade cakes and tray bakes to help raise the money for the charity. And local businesses also played their part, with the local Coop providing fresh fruit to the cyclists.

And the fund raising for this good cause is set to continue.

If cycling isn’t your thing, but you’d still like to have fun while raising money for the Suffolk British Legion Poppy Appeal, Suffolk Coastal District Council and the Suffolk British Legion are organising a fun Honour Run event this October.

The run will take place in Rendlesham Forest, which was established after the First World War when Britain had an increasing demand for timber.

The Royal British Legion are leading the nation in the Thank You movement - to say thank you to the WW1 generation who served, sacrificed and changed the world we live in today.  #Thankyou100

There are two options in the Honour Run; the 5 km run, which is open to anyone who wants to walk, jog or run, and the 10 km run open to anyone who wants to jog or run. Both options are off road and there will be goodie bags and medals for the runners.

For information, and to sign up for the Honour Run, see: www.eastsuffolk.gov.uk/honour-run

We’re also looking for volunteers to help us run the event on the day. If you are interested in volunteering and want to hear more about what roles we need to fill, please email us on activecommunities.scdc@eastsuffolk.gov.uk or call us on 01394 444 655.
