Thank you to everyone who attended the annual engagement event on Tuesday 18 June 2019 at The Orwell Hotel.
The Felixstowe Horizons event was attended by over 100 business organisations and community representatives.
We were delighted that the new Leader of East Suffolk Council, Councillor Steve Gallant was able to join us at the event and present his vision ‘Towards a Thriving East Suffolk’.
This was followed by a short overview presentation of changes at Felixstowe Town Council, by the Mayor, Councillor Nick Barber and Deputy Mayor, Councillor Mark Jepson and the launch of their new quarterly magazine for Felixstowe residents which is delivered to every household in Felixstowe.
The event focused on three themes in Felixstowe. Presentations on each theme were followed by the opportunity for the attendees, as groups, to give their feedback and other considerations or comments:
1. Felixstowe community in 2030 - What can we do to build resilience now and in the future? A presentation by Chloe Winlow, Felixstowe Communities Officer, on the ‘people in Felixstowe’, an overview of the demographic and needs within the local community. People in Felixstowe presentation feedback.
2. Making better use of our Open Spaces for health and wellbeing - A short introduction, by Helen Greengrass, Felixstowe Forward Change Director, on this theme bearing in mind the demographics of the previous presentations. Open spaces presentation feedback.
3) Felixstowe town centre in 2030? - helping define the priorities to transform our town centre now and in the future. Chris Wade, from People and Places gave a presentation on ‘Understanding town trends in Felixstowe’ , outlining early outcomes of a detailed business confidence survey and shoppers survey conducted in March 2019. Understanding town trends presentation feedback.
The event was primarily by invitation via EventBrite. Businesses and community organisation were invited to attend and the event well publicised in Felixstowe Town Council’s new quarterly magazine.
East Suffolk Council, Visit Felixstowe and Felixstowe Forward heavily promoted through their social media channels.
Felixstowe Forward will be developing a town plan, pulling together all the feedback and this will be available by the end of August 2019.
Please note: The Felixstowe Flyer, Issue 259 July 2019, inadvertently published information pertaining to the 2018 event. They will be amending this information in the next edition.
