The council charges a fee for all pre-application planning advice. Any completed requests should be directed to planning@eastsuffolk.gov.uk, to enable it to be registered and allocated to a planning officer. Once allocated you will be provided with an acknowledgement letter, with a direct contact number and email address for your case officer.
Such submissions should be made via the Planning Portal or to our Planning Support Team, either by email at planning@eastsuffolk.gov.uk or by post to Planning, Riverside, 4 Canning Road, Lowestoft, Suffolk NR33 0EQ, who will register the submission. The team can be contacted on 01394 444832. Once you have a valid submission you will receive an acknowledgement letter with a direct contact number and email address for your case officer. If you wish to submit any additional information please use the planning@eastsuffolk.gov.uk email address rather than contacting the individual officer, to ensure that your correspondence is received and attached to your file. You can follow the progress of your application through Public Access, using your unique reference number.
Comments can be made through Public Access, sent by email to planning@eastsuffolk.gov.uk or by post to our Planning Team at Riverside, 4 Canning Road, Lowestoft NR33 0EQ. Further guidance on commenting on applications can be found via Comment on a planning application » East Suffolk Council

We operate a duty planner system to provide certain advice to our customers. You can contact our duty planner by email at dutyplanner@eastsuffolk.gov.uk or by telephone between 10am and 4pm during weekdays on 01502 523100.
The Duty Officer will then endeavour to respond to your query as soon as possible, however, due to the volume of calls and emails received you may not receive a reply immediately/ the same day.
Please Note – This Duty Planner service should only be utilised for relatively simple enquires rather than seeking extensive/detailed advice on the suitability or otherwise of proposals, which should be submitted via our pre-application advice service.
To find out if Planning, Listed Building or Advertisement Consent is required for a proposal and/or is likely to be granted you will need to submit a pre-application enquiry. Generic guidance on the need for consent can also be found online at the Planning Portal.
For information on or to view a current application, the Public Access system provides full details of every application, including plans, consultation and other important dates and responses received. If you cannot find the information that you are seeking on Public Access, then please contact the case officer.
The Development Management, Major Projects and Planning Enforcement Team works as three area based teams (North, Central and South), along with a Enforcement, Technical and District Wide Team, and a Major Projects Team. Between them they are responsible for the process of determining Planning, Listed Building, Advertisement and other planning related applications, and for Planning Enforcement.
If you are seeking general planning advice regarding a proposal you should contact the Duty Planner (see above) or submit a pre-application enquiry.
Please note there is no guarantee that comments on applications sent directly to a case officers email address will make the case file and be available for consideration when the application is determined (i.e. if that officer is absent for any reason, their email box cannot be accessed). Therefore in order to ensure all comments reach the case file they must be submitted via Public Access, or via email to planning@eastsuffolk.gov.uk or via post as set out in the ‘Comment on a Planning application’ section of this page.
If you are making contact with a query/question on a current application and you are unable to find the information you are seeking via Public Access then you should contact the named case officer (their name can be found on the ‘further information’ tab for the application within Public Access, and their contact details via in this Map of the District, and in this alphabetical list of parishes). The parishes each area team covers can also be found via Geographic Information System » East Suffolk Council
