    Attention all landlords – do you own or manage a shared house? 

    The law relating to shared houses or houses in multiple occupation has changed. From 1 October 2018, landlords of most Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) that house five or more people and not a single household need an HMO licence. A landlord who failed to apply for a licence by that date will be committing a criminal offence.

    Beach huts at Felixstowe

    The council has over 900 sites for private beach huts in Felixstowe and these are in high demand. There may be opportunity to purchase a new hut and licence a site in the future (contact us to register your interest) but second-hand huts can be purchased privately throughout the year and an application for a new licence made by the new owner.

  • Statement on proposed beach hut pilot scheme in Felixstowe

    The Spa Pavilion area of Felixstowe experienced substantial falls in beach levels during the strong Easterly winds of Storm Darcy earlier this year. This is a continuing trend over recent years and has meant that a proposed pilot scheme of installing concrete platforms on which to position the displaced beach huts, would be easily undermined, despite their substantial nature. There is also not enough beach material in the area for the depth required to insert the platforms, nor create a control sand platform.

  • East Suffolk resident sentenced for Council Tax fraud

    A 24-year-old woman from Felixstowe has been handed a suspended prison sentence and ordered to pay £1,200 in costs for fraudulently claiming a reduction on her council tax.
