The photo competition is now closed.
Our East Suffolk Through the Lens photo competition encouraged photographers of all ages and abilities to capture what makes East Suffolk special to them, whether it’s the people or wildlife, the beautiful nature, daily life or vibrant towns.
In total, we received over 350 amazing entries and our judging panel had the difficult task of selecting just 5 photos as winners and runners-up. Our winners and runners-up are:
Winner: Tim Bennett - ‘Early morning swim at Southwold Beach’ |
---|
Our judges said: “We were hugely impressed by so many elements of this photo. The colour, lighting and genuine sense of tranquillity is so striking and it possesses an incredible depth with elements almost seeming to appear through the mist, the longer one looks at it. It speaks to the beauty of East Suffolk and our welcoming and peaceful coastline – a worthy winner.” |
Under 16 Winner: Bruno Leon - ‘A Water Vole enjoying some food at the RSPB Minsmere pond’ |
Our judges said: “A really fun photo which beautifully captures a vole enjoying a blade of grass. The detail is incredible, from the droplets on its back to the tiny paws gripping its food. It is a beautiful close-up which brings the viewer into a different world.” |
Runner up: Peter Stokes - ‘Dawn on the River Deben at Felixstowe Ferry’ |
Our judges said: “Judges felt this picture stood out because of its combination of stillness, tranquillity but also bold, bright and inviting colour. The boat commands the image at the heart of a genuinely peaceful scene.” |
Runner up: Darren Kirby - ‘Winter sunrise at Lowestoft beach’ |
Our Judges said: “A lot of entrants focused on our beautiful beaches but this particular image stood out for the way in combines a range of interesting different elements. The dark imposing groynes in the foreground are complemented by the jetty which rises in the background mist beneath the blue sky. The golden sun then adds an orangey hue in contrast.” |
Runner up: Jordan Shaddick - ‘A Hare jumping through the RSPB Boyton and Hollesley Marshes’ |
Our Judges said: “A genuine action shot with a bounding hare almost skipping across the water – all perfectly captured and framed, clearly and crisply presenting the beauty and athleticism of the animal.” |
