The councillors and officers of East Suffolk Council are deeply saddened at the news of the death of Her Majesty The Queen. Our thoughts are with the Royal Family at this time.  

Chairman of East Suffolk Council, Cllr Jenny Ceresa said: “On behalf of East Suffolk Council, our residents and communities, I would like to express our deep sadness following the passing of Her Majesty The Queen. Our thoughts at this sad time are with the Royal Family.  

“We will of course ensure that the people of East Suffolk are provided with the information they need to pay their respects to Her Majesty The Queen and her life of service to the country and to the world.”   

As a mark of respect, the flags at our council offices will be flown at half-mast from today, 8 September.  

A Book of Condolence is being provided at East Suffolk House, Melton; Riverside Offices, Lowestoft, and Marina Customer Services Centre, Lowestoft, to allow local people to pay their respects.   

An online Book of Condolence has been placed at www.suffolk.gov.uk/condolence and further information will be provided in due course. 

Floral tributes may be laid at dedicated locations across East Suffolk - these sites are organised by the respective Town Council:

• Aldeburgh - War Memorial Garden
• Beccles - base of church tower
• Bungay - St Mary's Church
• Felixstowe - Town Hall gardens
• Framlingham - St Michael's Church
• Halesworth - the arboretum (War Memorial)
• Kesgrave - British Legion Green
• Leiston - against railings outside Leiston Library
• Lowestoft - War Memorial at Royal Plain
• Saxmundham - forecourt, Market Hall, 29 High Street
• Southwold - Bartholomew Green
• Woodbridge - Elmhurst Park

Please remember to remove any plastic wrapping from flowers before laying. Alternatively, the Palace suggests people may prefer to donate to one of Her Majesty’s many charities.

A National Moment of Reflection to mourn the passing of Her Majesty The Queen will take place at 8pm on Sunday 18 September, the night before the State Funeral, and be marked by a one-minute silence. The silence can be marked privately at home, with friends and family, out on doorsteps or the street with neighbours, or at locally arranged community events and vigils.
