Following this week’s severe weather, which led to the cancellation of all refuse collections in the district, East Suffolk Norse will resume collections on Monday 15 February.
‘Catch up’ collections will be taking place and during these, bagged side waste will be accepted.
Collection days will remain the same, however the particular bin being emptied may be different for the next two weeks to ensure all outstanding collections are completed. There will be double collections on some days.
All residents are usually divided in to one of two collection calendars - details for YOUR revised collections are below.
You can also see what days your bins are usually collected by using our ‘Bin Collection Day Finder’.

These collections are subject to the weather conditions. All collections will return to the normal schedule from 1 March.
To enable crews to focus solely on the general household waste and recycling collections, garden waste collections will be suspended for two weeks and will resume on Monday 1 March. Additional/side garden waste will not be collected.
This means that some households will unfortunately miss two scheduled garden waste collections, whilst some will miss one collection. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes however the clearing of normal waste and recycling during this difficult period is our priority.
Wednesday 10 February - 4pm:
With temperatures expected to fall even further overnight, dropping to as low as minus eight degrees centigrade by 6am tomorrow morning, East Suffolk Norse has decided that it remains unsafe to carry out any collections on Thursday 11 February. Consideration is also being given to cancelling collections on Friday, with a full catch up service being prepared by East Suffolk Norse.
We understand this is frustrating however the safety of crews and residents is of the utmost importance.
We will advise when collections will resume however, for any households which have accumulated additional waste, bagged side waste will be collected at the same time. To avoid rubbish being dispersed by the wind, residents are asked to store any bagged side waste until their collection day has been confirmed.
Tuesday 9 February - 5pm:
In consultation with East Suffolk Council, East Suffolk Norse has reluctantly decided that conditions are likely to remain too difficult to undertake a waste collection service on Wednesday.
The weather forecast suggests further sub-zero temperatures overnight and more snowfall, particularly focused on East Suffolk, which will make it almost impossible for 20-tonne-plus refuse vehicles to safely reach and navigate a very large number of roads and properties.
Over 85% of our residential properties are on smaller roads and, while Suffolk Highways are working hard to grit as many as possible throughout the county, a great proportion will remain impassable for vehicles of this size.
While this is clearly a frustrating situation, the safety of crews and local residents is more important. Clearly some properties will be accessible, however Norse will look to conduct full rounds once the weather improves as this will ensure a far more effective and efficient service throughout the district.
Monday 8 February - 5pm:
With further snow forecast for this evening and temperatures widely expected to remain below freezing, it has been decided to cancel all bin collections on Tuesday 9 February.
This means we will not be collecting any bins which were scheduled for collection on Tuesday, nor those which were due for collection today (Monday).
We will advise tomorrow when these collections will take place and how collections during the rest of the week will be affected.
Monday 8 February - 10am:
Due to the adverse weather conditions and in the interests of safety, all refuse collections in East Suffolk have been cancelled for today.
Main routes have been gritted, however side roads are extremely icy and given that 90% of collections occur on untreated side roads, it is considered unsafe to put any vehicles out today.
At the moment, we aim to collect all bins one day later than scheduled – so if your bin is scheduled for collection today (Monday), please leave it out – our crews hope to collect your bin tomorrow (Tuesday).
However, this depends entirely on the weather conditions during the rest of today and overnight. Further updates will be provided as the situation progresses.
