Coastal management drop-in event for Corton residents

East Suffolk Council is inviting residents in Corton to a community drop-in event on Monday 28 September.

Following the closure of the walkway between Baker’s Score and Tibbenham’s Score, the event is being held to provide an opportunity for residents to learn more about how this section of coastline is managed, hear about current and future plans and find out how they can help shape the community's long-term response to coastal change.

Residents are welcome to attend the session at Corton Community Rooms any time between 10am and 12pm.

Officers from the Council’s Coastal Management and Adaptation Team will be on hand to explain how the coastline is currently managed and answer questions about erosion risks. Representatives from the Suffolk Joint Emergency Planning Unit will also be there to discuss how a community emergency plan is developed and what it could mean for local people.

The Council's Community Help Hub and Housing Teams will be in attendance to signpost people to specific support relating to coastal erosion.

Ward member for Lothingland, Cllr Paul Ashdown, and Cllr Mark Packard, East Suffolk Council's Cabinet Member for Planning and Coastal Management, will also be in attendance.

Cllr Mark Packard said:

“We understand the concerns many residents have about the ongoing impact of coastal erosion in Corton and are committed to working closely with the community to address these challenges.

“This event is an opportunity for local people to speak directly with council officers, learn more about the actions being taken and help us understand what's most important to them as we plan for the future. I would encourage anyone with an interest in the future of Corton's coastline to come along, ask questions and share their views.”
