The delivery of new bins and containers to households across East Suffolk is entering its final phase ahead of the start of the county-wide ‘Better Recycling’ Service from 1 June onwards.
We are supplying all households with an additional wheelie bin or other container to collect paper and card separately from plastics, metal, cartons (including Tetra Pak) and glass bottles or jars. Food waste collection caddies are also being provided.
This is a complex operation, servicing over 120,000 households across a largely rural district, however the majority of new containers have now been delivered. Work continues to ensure the remainder are provided before the new service gets underway and those who have received their new bins (which are provided specifically for paper and card) can begin to fill them once their final recycling collection in May has taken place.
For those households who have yet to receive their new bins, but have had their final recycling collection under the old service, we would kindly ask them to store their paper and card recycling separately – and then fill the new bin when it arrives.
The households which will be waiting for the longest period following their final May recycling collection have been identified, and delivery of the new containers to them is being prioritised.
For full information about the new service, including descriptions of how to use each bin, plus your new collection calendar, please refer to the information pack which has been delivered to each household. We also have a dedicated web page with full details.
To help you with the changes to recycling in East Suffolk, we have launched a new East Suffolk app.
The new app will help you quickly see which bin is due for collection each week and will help you easily check what can be put into each bin, to help you recycle even more. You can also opt in to receive reminders ahead of bin day, and receive alerts if your bin collection has been delayed.
The new East Suffolk app is available to download for free from your app store.
