East Suffolk Council has welcomed plans to ensure improvements and repairs are made to the landscaping at Royal Green in Lowestoft.
Blakedown Landscapes, the contractor responsible for the delivery of the project including the Fountains, Pocket Park, leisure improvements, landscaping works and installation of new seating in the area, has committed to remove failed planting while also completing any outstanding areas of work.
Cllr Caroline Topping, Leader of East Suffolk Council said:
“The council is pleased to have received confirmation from Blakedown Landscapes that all remaining elements of the project will be completed during the current project defects liability period which concludes October 2026.
“Unfortunately, record heat and lack of rainfall have contributed to some of the trees and plants not becoming established at Royal Green, and those that have failed have been removed.
“We want Royal Green to be a welcoming, vibrant space for both residents and visitors and the space to reflect the recently completed aspects of the project, including the fountains, Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), boulder climbing and recently opened Jubilee Parade.
“This project reflects our ongoing commitment to regenerating the Royal Plain, Royal Green, and South Quay Wharf areas as part of the Lowestoft Seafront Vision, which is supported by the Government's Towns Fund. However, the scheme needs to meet the standards that Lowestoft expects and deserves, and we are pleased to confirm that this additional work will be carried out at no extra cost to the rate payer.”
Following the removal of plants in the area, new trees and shrubs will be planted in the autumn by East Suffolk Council’s trading company and services operator, East Suffolk Services Ltd, who will maintain the areas going forward.
