Show your community pride by joining town tidy-up
People living and working in Beccles can show their pride in the town by helping to keep the local area looking its best during a three-day community event.
East Suffolk Council and Beccles Town Council are asking people to volunteer some time between Friday 17 and Sunday 19 November to clear litter or weeds from outside their homes and businesses.
Blyburgate Hall will be used as a base for volunteers to pick up equipment and drop off any rubbish or green waste collected during the event.
The initiative is part of East Suffolk Council’s recent renewed drive to help people show civic pride and contribute towards the appearance of their local areas.
A newly formed Strategic Waste and Contract Management team will support a task and finish group to improve working partnerships with all organisations concerned with public spaces.
Caroline Topping, Leader of East Suffolk Council and ward councillor for Beccles and Worlingham, said:
“I hope this event has a positive impact and inspires other people across the district to do their bit.
“Our own maintenance teams work hard on the upkeep of the district, but we can all play our own part in improving the appearance and cleanliness of our communities.
“We would really appreciate help from local residents and businesses during the three-day event. Equipment and a warm welcome will be provided at Blyburgate Hall.”
While individuals will be asked to tidy the areas outside their own properties, larger public areas will be adopted for tidying by groups of volunteers from organisations and companies including the Salvation Army, CC Betts builders’ merchant, The Ingate public house, Beccles Community Gardeners and Beccles Bombles.
Anyone unable to take part in the event will still be making a positive contribution to the cause by sparing some time to clear the areas around their properties of litter and weeds.
