Improving community safety in Bungay
Council officers have taken part in a multi-agency day of action to improve community safety in Bungay.
Organised by the East Suffolk Community Safety Partnership, officers from East Suffolk Council’s Communities, Environmental Protection, Licencing, Housing, Tenant Services, Fraud, Waste and Private Sector Housing teams joined forces with Suffolk Police, Suffolk Fire and Rescue and Bungay Town Council for a day of checks and inspections, aimed at strengthening community safety and addressing environmental issues.
Checks were carried out on several potential empty properties, fly-tipping sites and possible abandoned vehicles. Suffolk Police provided patrols on foot and carried out vehicle checks, while Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service focused on improving residential safety.
The event saw:
- 4 potential empty properties identified
- 1 building site safety issue identified
- Unsafe equipment identified at a play park
- Littering at a play park
- 1 unroadworthy vehicle reported
- 2 suspected abandoned vehicles
- 1 abandoned cycle
- 3 waste compliance issues
- 4 fly-tipping sites
- 5 unkept properties
- 2 incidents of dog fouling
- 3 improvements required by Suffolk Fire & Rescue at a licensed premises
- 13 Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans discussed with residents
- 42 households engaged with by housing officers
Cllr Lee Reeves, Chair of the Community Safety Partnership said: “The enforcement day carried out in Bungay successfully identified several potential safety and environmental issues which need to be addressed. As well as carrying out compliance and safety checks, we were able to provide guidance to residents and businesses, including advice on Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans. Many residents engaged with our officers to share their concerns and we are grateful to those who took time to speak to us.”
The Bungay event follows similar enforcement days held earlier this year in Lowestoft and Beccles.
