The next Greenprint Forum event takes place on Wednesday 28 February, at the Market Hall in Saxmundham. Titled ‘Regenerating Food Systems and Natural Capital – a forum on food and farming’, the event will explore the benefits of a regenerative food production system that nourishes people whilst bringing net positive benefits for natural capital, and examine the barriers to change.
Anna Beames, Chief Executive of Suffolk Farming Wildlife Advisory Group, will be joined for the event by fellow guest speaker John Pawsey of Suffolk-based Shimpling Park Farm. There will also be an interactive workshop session to enable the audience to participate in a discussion around this important topic.
Jane Healey, Chair of the Greenprint Forum said: “We all have a role to play in limiting our impact on the environment. By looking at the challenges facing the farming sector, and at examples of the sector successfully taking positive action, this forum will explore how we can support action towards achieving relocalisation of our food and farming systems, also enhance the natural capital underpinning the production of the food upon which we all depend, and support the sector in making the transformation.
“Two of the Greenprint Forum's goals are action towards quality food and healthy humanity. Our focus for this event is to explore how we can further these goals, how we can support towards producing food in ways that minimise negative impacts and maximise positive impacts on natural resources and make good quality, healthy food accessible to local people.
“We're looking forward to exploring, discussing and sharing experiences of the barriers and solutions of those involved in producing food to the challenge.”
Cllr Rachel Smith-Lyte, East Suffolk Council’s cabinet member for the Environment said: “A major cause of climate emissions and associated biodiversity loss is intensive agriculture which has also led to generally poorer health with greater obesity and less actual nutrition. Exemplars such as Shimpling Park Farm are leading the way in nature friendly farming but we clearly also need to hear from ‘conventional’ farmers to best understand the barriers to change and help support that change. Many people now realise a plant-based diet is the only way to stop eating ourselves to extinction but there is still much to be done to share knowledge as well as tasty recipes!”
The event takes place at the Market Hall in Saxmundham on Wednesday 28 February 2024, from 6pm to 9pm and is free to attend.
