A new grant scheme which supports local events to attract more attendees has been launched by East Suffolk Council.
The Events Growth Grant Scheme is offering projects funding of up to £25,000, to support marketing activity, infrastructure improvements, accessibility enhancements, staffing, and additional event programming. Higher amounts may be considered for exceptional projects that demonstrate a strong economic impact.
Funded through the Sizewell C Tourism Fund, this grant scheme aims to encourage the development of events which not only benefit local communities but also attract visitors from outside the district, particularly during the off-peak tourism season.
Cllr Sarah Whitelock, East Suffolk’s cabinet member for Communities, Culture, Leisure and Tourism said:
“A Deed of Obligation (DoO) was agreed as part of the planning process for Sizewell C, to mitigate the impacts of the construction of the power station. This DoO includes a £12m Tourism Fund which enables us to offer this grant scheme.
“We know that well-organised, high-quality events play a vital role in supporting our visitor economy and will help to showcase East Suffolk as a fantastic place to visit all year round. This grant scheme is a real opportunity for event organisers to grow and develop their projects, and we look forward to supporting a wide range of creative and ambitious projects.”
The grant scheme is designed to support:
Established events looking to grow and attract new audiences
New or spin-off events that build on existing success
Projects taking place outside the peak summer season
Events that align with the Council’s economic, tourism, and cultural strategies
Activities that demonstrate sustainable practices and long-term viability.
Applications are welcomed from established event organisers, cultural organisations, town and parish councils, community groups, and tourism-related businesses. Events must take place within East Suffolk and be open to the public, with a minimum expected footfall of 500+.
Applications open in July 2025 and will be assessed by a panel on a rolling monthly basis. The first review of applications will take place throughout the week of 21 July, and first decisions will be communicated by Friday 1 August.
