A Public Consultation asking for views and comments on our revocation assessment for, and the intention to revoke, the AQMA declared at the junction of Lime Kiln Quay Road / Thoroughfare / St John’s Street / Melton Hill in Woodbridge was undertaken between May and July 2022. The Consultation ran for 6 weeks and ended on 11th July 2022.

Guidance for living in an Article 4 Direction area |
To help protect the character and appearance of some of the district’s conservation areas, East Suffolk Council, as a local planning authority, has increased planning controls through the application of Article 4 Directions. A list of conservation areas where these have been applied is below. These directions make further restrictions on permitted development rights to change residential (only) properties. Planning permission is consequently required to make any change of design or material to any part of the property facing what is called a ‘relevant location’ – that is, a public thoroughfare, defined as a highway, waterway or open space.

The Environment Act 1995 (Part IV) requires that all local authorities carry out periodic reviews of the current and likely future air quality in their area. These reviews follow Government guidance that set health-based air quality objectives for a number of key pollutants and target dates for their achievement. The main pollutants of relevance currently for East Suffolk are nitrogen dioxide (NO2 ) and particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10 ).
