Bulky waste

To ensure that household waste and recycling collections are prioritised, East Suffolk Council and East Suffolk Norse have taken the decision to temporarily suspend the bulky waste collection service.

Due to temporary staffing pressures, the service will be suspended from Friday 22 January. No new orders will be taken after this date however any existing orders will be fulfilled.

We offer a collection and disposal service for bulky items, charging £45.50 for up to 3 items plus £15.50 for every additional item.

Please note that we are unable to specify a day for removal of items and, while we strive to get these collected as soon as possible, it could take up to a maximum of five working days, following the order being processed (if the order is placed at the weekend, then it will not be processed until the following Monday, so day one of the five working days will be on the Tuesday). Goods need to be available for collection from 6am the day after the order is placed and payment received.

The kinds of items we collect include:

  • free-standing, single items of furniture i.e. sofa, armchair, bed (a mattress is counted as a separate item), wardrobe
  • fridge/freezer
  • cooker/microwave
  • washing machine/tumble drier/dishwasher
  • television
  • rolled up and tied carpet
  • metal radiators
  • water tanks
  • Bicycles, lawn-mowers (excluding ride-on), barbecues

Heavier items such as construction waste (sanitary ware, baths, brick/rubble, timber, plasterboard etc), storage heaters, boilers, house clearances, soil and/or garden waste, musical instruments, ladders, gym equipment paving are not acceptable but can be quoted for.

Where possible, please leave items whole. If they have to be dismantled, make sure they are tied or taped up and flat packed.

Collections are made by one operative using a tail lift vehicle. Therefore, please ensure all items are placed where there is vehicular access, such as on your driveway, in an unlocked garage or front garden.

Please label the waste items and keep them well away from property you do not want disposed of. Your items will then be collected as soon as possible after payment so have them ready the same day if possible. Our average collection time is about five working days.

Goods collected from inside the property must be quoted for:
