Budget and Medium-Term Financial Strategy

The Council has a statutory duty to set a balanced budget for the forthcoming financial year and to set the Band D rate of Council Tax.

The Medium-Term Financial Strategy (MTFS) sets the strategic financial direction for the Council. It sets out the key financial management principles, budget assumptions and service issues.

It provides an integrated view of the Council’s finances, recognising that the allocation and management of its human, financial and physical resources play a key role in delivering its priorities and ensuring that the Council works effectively with its partners locally, regionally and nationally.

It provides a framework for the detailed budget setting process to ensure that resources are managed effectively and are able to deliver the aspirations of the Council.

It provides a sound basis for planning and decision making and is reviewed and updated at key points in the year.
