Community Cycle Parking Fund

East Suffolk Council through its Cycling, Walking and Wheeling Strategy, is launching a straightforward funding opportunity for local community organisations to apply up to £1,000 for cycle parking, just where it’s needed.

What is the purpose of the ESC Community Cycle Parking Fund?

East Suffolk Council's Our Direction 2028 strategy is committed to ‘Supporting Sustainable Transport’.

A safe and secure place to secure a bike at your destination can be a key factor when deciding what mode of travel to use for local or short trips. If the risk of theft or the feeling of not being safe is too great, then it is likely the bike will be left at home, forcing unnecessary car journeys and adding to traffic pollution and congestion.

We want our communities to journey by bicycle confident in the knowledge that they can park a bike, lock and leave it in a safe, well-lit and convenient space.

The ESC Community Cycle Parking Fund has been created enable local communities to install new and upgraded cycle parking facilities by providing funding grants of up to £1,000 to cover the costs.

‘Installation of secure bike storage racks encourages sustainable transportation and is an essential amenity for cyclists, improving wellbeing and a ‘win-win’ for the community'.

‘5.5 million people on a low income or not in employment, would likely start cycling, or cycle more, if they had access to a safe, secure, and accessible place to park a bike.’
