East Suffolk Council Tree and Hedgerow Strategy

Enabling 250,000 new native trees across East Suffolk.

East Suffolk Council is committed to enabling new native trees (including hedgerow) to be planted in the district over the next several years, with an ultimate goal of reaching 250,000 new native trees for the district (since July 2024). We are currently in the process of producing an East Suffolk Tree and Hedgerow Strategy, which will help to support the planting of the right tree species in the right places, for the right reasons.

The council will be taking an enabling role by providing helpful advice and guidance to local landowners, farmers, schools, and community organisations to plant trees and hedgerows across the district, and may be able to provide further subsidy and access to technical services.

We are already actively planting trees on our land, and changing the way we manage existing trees and woodland that we manage. However, but local landowners of all type and size will be key to delivering this work at scale.

To see the Council’s reported tree planting since July 2024, please see the ‘Environmental Impact’ Strategic KPI dashboard, where tree planting since July 2024 is mapped by parish.

As of December 2025, the ability to report tree plantings is being opened up to anyone who has planted trees or hedgerow within East Suffolk, so their effort be counted towards the district’s 250,000 goal. Everyone’s contribution counts towards meeting our target. This is entirely voluntary, but we would be very grateful to those that take the time to do so.

If you would like to report trees you or your organisation have planted, please select from the following forms, depending on how many trees you have planted. Please only report trees you know you have planted since July 2024:
