Work has officially begun on an affordable housing development, comprising seven new homes in Ilketshall St Lawrence.

Site clearance started last month on the council-owned site on Halesworth Road, and construction work is now underway, marked with a groundbreaking event on 23 February.

The development will include three bungalows for affordable rent: one 2-bedroom bungalow and two 3-bedroom wheelchair accessible bungalows, as well as three 2-bedroom houses for shared ownership and one 3-bedroom house for open market sale.

Designed by A2 Architects, the houses are being built by Smith of Honingham, supported by REAL Consulting LLP, acting as Employer’s Agent on behalf of East Suffolk Council.

Cllr David Beavan, East Suffolk’s cabinet member for Housing said: “A lovely rural village on the Bungay straight with school, bus and pub - an ideal place to invest in houses that East Suffolk people can afford to live in. Like the daffodils on the roadside, this heralds a new spring in housing as we plan major investment to address the housing crisis.”

Dale Bunting, Partner at REAL Consulting LLP said: “We are pleased to be supporting East Suffolk Council with Employer’s Agent and Quantity Surveying services for the much needed affordable and shared ownership housing, collaborating with H Smith & Sons to help deliver high-quality sustainable homes for the community.”

The affordable rented homes will be managed by East Suffolk Council as part of the HRA stock.
