All East Suffolk Council off street car parks are equipped with at least one coin operated payment machine. From March 2026, all our car parks will also offer convenient contactless card payment.

Because every parking session is linked directly to your vehicle registration, there’s no need to display a paper ticket in your vehicle. If you would like one, you can still choose to print a ticket at any coin operated machine or request an emailed receipt when paying using contactless only machine.

Cashless parking

In addition, we offer the convenience of paying via several cashless payment providers:

Benefits of cashless parking

  • Pay quickly using your smartphone, without the need for coins or searching for a machine
  • Start or extend your parking session from anywhere using the app
  • Get notifications when your session is about to expire (see providers additional charges)
  • Reduces paper use and the need for printed tickets and the need for regular cash collections
  • No need to carry cash; your payment is processed securely through the app
  • You can view and download receipts and parking history

Cashless parking convenience fee and additional charges

When opting to pay through one of our approved third party cashless providers, please be aware that a convenience fee may be charged to support the processing and maintenance of the cashless payment system.

Providers may also apply a charge for optional services such as text alerts or reminder messages. These fees are determined directly by the provider and will be shown at the point of payment, allowing customers to review and agree to any costs before proceeding. These additional services may be turned off within your account settings.

Information about parking session refunds

Our cashless parking providers are not obliged to cancel or refund parking sessions that have been purchased, unless a system error has occurred on their part. When you register, the provider begins delivering its service immediately by giving you access to their parking payment system, which means you do not have the right to withdraw from your agreement once a session is purchased.

East Suffolk Council is also under no obligation to offer a refund. However, in extenuating circumstances, the council may consider a refund at its discretion. If you believe this applies to you, please send an email to parking.services@eastsuffolk.gov.uk. Before getting in touch, we kindly ask that you review the cashless provider’s refund policy and ensure that all parking information and vehicle details were entered correctly when purchasing your session, as this is the responsibility of the customer.

Zero fee session

A select number of East Suffolk Council car parks offer a free 30-minute parking option. To take advantage of this, users must register their session using either the payment machine or the cashless parking app. Each vehicle is entitled to one free 30-minute session per car park, per day.

Disabled parking (Blue Badge)

Designated disabled parking bays are provided in our off-street car parks for the convenience of Blue Badge holders. However, no parking concessions are offered, and standard tariff charges apply to all users, including those displaying a Blue Badge.

Motorcycle parking

Solo motorcycles may park free of charge in designated motorcycle bays where provided. When parked in a standard parking bay, standard tariff charges apply and only one motorcycle is permitted per bay.

EV charging

We have EV charging points located in Martello North parking place, Felixstowe and Deben parking place, Woodbridge.

Motorhomes

Charges 24 hours Maximum Stay No return period
Motorhome £20.00 3 days 7 days

The tariff is payable even if the vehicle is not being used for sleeping and camping purposes.

Additionally, the following websites and others are available to help motorhome users find legal and appropriate places to camp and sleep overnight:

Overnight parking

Overnight parking is permitted within our off-street car parks. However, sleeping, camping, or cooking in vehicles is strictly prohibited unless the vehicle is a motorhome and is parked within a designated motorhome bay and the motorhome tariff has been paid via a cashless parking method.

General parking rules

All parking sessions, including any zero fee, must be registered immediately upon arrival, either via a payment machine or a cashless payment provider. When entering your vehicle registration details, please ensure they are accurate and match DVLA records. Incorrect vehicle registration details will invalidate your parking session and may result in a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) being issued.

Vehicles must be parked wholly within a marked bay, where bays are provided. Parking across multiple bays is not permitted.

All vehicles are left at the owner's risk. East Suffolk Council accepts no responsibility for loss, theft, or damage to vehicles or their contents while parked in its car parks.

Our car parks are not subject to gritting. During periods of icy or snowy weather, surfaces may become slippery. We kindly advise all users to take extra care when accessing and moving around the car parks in such conditions.

Park Mark & Park Access

Several East Suffolk Council off-street car parks are accredited with the Park Mark and Park Access awards. To learn more about these accreditations, please visit the Park Mark website.

Off-street Parking Order

Local authority off-street parking places are managed under relevant sections of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and in East Suffolk, patrolled and enforced where necessary via Civil Parking Enforcement powers provided by Statutory Instrument 2020 No. 14 - The Civil Enforcement of Parking Contraventions Designation Order 2020.

The Council has introduced a new Off-Street Parking Places Order, effective from Sunday, 1 June 2025. View the full list of rules and regulations of the order.
