A message from East Suffolk Council's Chief Executive |
---|
What a time to be joining the team at East Suffolk! We are one year into a Green, Liberal Democrat and Independent Administration with a new and ambitious agenda for the district. These new roles are central to the delivery of that agenda providing the strategic direction for major economic development, housing programmes and our future land use plans.
The district is the largest in the country by population, home to a number of nationally significant businesses, including the largest container port in the UK at Felixstowe, a growing port servicing the Offshore industry in Lowestoft, the Sizewell B Nuclear Power Station (with a consented scheme underway to build Sizewell C), and Adastral Park, which hosts some 200 companies and is home to BT's global research and development headquarters.
The district is already a centre for offshore renewable energy, seeking to be at the forefront of the transition away fossil fuels. We are home to a rich visitor economy including the world-renowned Latitude and First Light Festivals, and boast 115 square miles designated as Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, as well as 49 miles of beautiful coastline. The diversity and scale of the opportunity here is incredible.
This council is a modern and progressive organisation, with a track record of delivery. Our vision is clear and set out in our strategic plan, ‘Our Direction 2028’. Our aim is to promote a bright, green, open, free and fair future for all East Suffolk, with a focus on Tackling Inequalities, Sustainable Housing, Environmental Impact and a Thriving Economy.
In delivering this plan, we recognise that solid foundations are critically important to any successful local authority at this time and from a strong base, we will continue to provide excellent value for money services for our residents.
Here at East Suffolk Council, we are proud of our agile and dynamic workforce who go above and beyond for the district, embrace transformation and have risen brilliantly to challenges such as the Covid-19 pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis. This is a great opportunity to join the organisation on this journey and play a leading role in the next phase of our development.
The roles we are advertising have come about through the natural churn within the council – a retirement and the creation of a new post to focus on the council’s responsibilities around Sizewell C and the many other Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects in the district. They are part of the council’s Corporate Leadership Team and expectations are high that the right individuals will bring new ideas and thinking to the organisation at a critical time in local government. Leadership in Housing, Economic Development and Planning is central to the future of the District.
East Suffolk really is a great place to work and live and this could not be a better time to make East Suffolk Council the next step on your own personal journey.
