Household bin collections

Our collection service gives residents alternate fortnightly collections of recyclable materials and general household waste that cannot be recycled.

Recycling

We provide a fortnightly bin collection for recyclable materials.

Better Recycling in 2026

From 2026, East Suffolk Council will supply all households with an additional wheelie bin or other container to separate paper and card from plastics, metal, cartons (including Tetra Pak) and glass bottles or jars. This will be in addition to a brand-new weekly food waste collection service.

Garden waste

An annual subscription service, operating all year round to provide 26 fortnightly collections of domestic garden waste.

Food waste

Food waste is no longer to be disposed of using the garden waste bin.

Hazardous waste

Hazardous waste is any solid or liquid material that may cause harm to human health or the environment if not disposed of correctly.

Litter

We are responsible for the collection of litter from any area of public land within the district. We work to take preventative measures, investigate incidents and the causes of littering, maintain collection facilities and clean up or remove waste.

East Suffolk's Amazing

We invest every single penny we can in services to help maintain the beauty and cleanliness of East Suffolk but sometimes admit that it can never necessarily be enough.

Fly-tipping

We treat the problem of fly-tipping very seriously and where possible will seek to prosecute anyone caught illegally dumping waste.

Bulky waste

Collection service for large or bulky items of household waste.

Commercial waste

East Suffolk Services Ltd (ESSL) offer a complete waste and recycling service to cover all of your business needs effectively.

Clinical waste

There are certain types of waste arising from home treatments i.e. home dialysis or infectious waste that requires specialist collection and treatment.

Electrical waste

Electrical and electronic items must not be thrown away in the rubbish or recycling bins at home.

Abandoned vehicles

Abandoned vehicles can devalue an area, promoting blight and deterioration. They create fire and health and safety hazards and generally constitute a nuisance and obstruction to other road users.

Householder duty of care

As a householder, you have a legal obligation (duty of care) to take all reasonable measures to ensure that your waste is disposed of properly.
