Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund Wave 3
East Suffolk Council have secured funding from the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero (DESNZ) to help improve the energy efficiency of our houses. Find out more...

An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) is required whenever a building in the social or private rented sector is let to a new tenant, or a privately owned property is sold.

Example Energy Performance Certificate

An EPC shows two things: the energy efficiency rating (relating to running costs) and the environmental impact rating (relating to carbon dioxide emissions) of a property. Each rating is shown on a scale of A-G, which is similar to those used for fridges and other electrical appliances.

Landlords must provide an EPC free of charge to the prospective tenants at the earliest opportunity and must provide a copy of the EPC to the person who takes up the tenancy.

The purpose of the EPC is to show prospective tenants the energy performance of the dwelling they are considering renting. An EPC is valid for ten years and can be re-used as many times as necessary within that period. An EPC is not required for any property that was newly occupied before 1 October 2008.

We can produce Energy Performance Certificates upon request. To discuss your requirements contact our Building Control Team.
