PSPOs are designed to deal with a particular nuisance or problem in a particular area that is detrimental to the local community’s quality of life by imposing conditions on the use of that area which apply to everyone.
Public Space Protection Orders replace the following powers:
- Dog Control Orders
- Gating Orders
Current Public Space Protection Orders
- Proposed Draft PSPO Lowestoft Town Centre 2026
- Notice of intention to discharge a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) – Lowestoft Town Centre and surrounding
- PSPO - Felixstowe Viewpoint (Viewpoint Road) and Landguard car parks
Public Space Protection Orders can be used to deal with both:
- Existing problems
- Problems that are likely to arise in the future
Councils can make a PSPO on any public space within its local authority area. It does not have to be land the council owns. It includes any place in which the public, or any section of the public, has access, on payment or otherwise, as or right or by virtue of express or implied permission e.g. a shopping centre.
