There has been some news recently on the long term effects of PM 2.5?

Long-term exposure to ambient PM2.5, particulate constituents and hospital admissions from non-respiratory infection | Nature Communications

How are we monitoring that and are our standards the same as WHO?

Resident of East Suffolk Member of Public

Perhaps I have got the wrong end of the stick but it almost seems as if East Suffolk Council have forgotten about the National Grid proposals for Saxmundham and Friston and Sizewell. For one thing the air quality will not be good if all that goes ahead.

Farnham with Stratford Parish Council  Local Authority

The Parish Council notes DEFRAs requirement to revoke and does not seek to dispute or delay this being actioned. The Parish Council welcomes the continued monitoring of the area and feels this is essential in view of the significant increase in heavy vehicles now travelling through the village to and from the Sizewell C construction site, in addition to vehicles travelling to other energy projects in the vicinity (e.g Scottish Power in Friston). We feel that this undeniable increase in traffic, which will continue until the opening of the bypass currently scheduled for Summer 2027, could have a significantly negative impact on air quality and requires regular monitoring.

Actions following the consultation

  • East Suffolk Council will revoke the Air Quality Management Area located at Long Row, Main Road, Stratford St. Andrew following the process set out in the Local Air Quality Management framework.
  • Our monitoring regime will not alter - the Council will continue to monitor air quality in Stratford St. Andrew and along the A12. This is particularly important as the Early Years works have now started for Sizewell C, construction associated with cabling has begun for the EA3 Offshore Windfarm, and initial surveying work has started for both the EA1N and EA2 Offshore Windfarms. We will be keeping a close eye on nitrogen dioxide concentrations at this location, and across the district, and working closely with each project individually and cumulatively
  • Yearly reports containing the monitoring data will continue to be published on the council’s website at Air quality monitoring data » East Suffolk Council
  • Air Quality will continue to be considered in planning policy and future planning permissions across the district, and more specifically those which could impact on this area including any Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects
