Eligibility and allocation

Eligible households are residents who are unable to meet their housing need via the private rental or ownership markets. Residents in housing need can apply to the council’s housing register called Gateway to Homechoice. Applicants are assessed against the Housing Allocations Policy which will decide the level of need applicants have. Those in highest need will be given priority for housing.

Once applicants have been accepted on to the register, they will be able to express their interest in available homes. This gives applicants the choice of where they live and whether they want a socially rented or affordable rented home. Homes are delivered, owned and managed by either the council or one of the housing association (registered provider) partners who operate in the district.
