East Suffolk Council appoints new Strategic Director

Posted by on 10 November 2022 | Comments

East Suffolk Council is delighted to confirm the appointment of Kate Blakemore as its new Strategic Director. Kate is currently a Strategic Director at Great Yarmouth Borough Council and has been in the role for over five years, having previously been the authority’s Head of Transformation.

After a thorough recruitment process, Cllr Steve Gallant, Leader of East Suffolk Council, believes that Kate will be an outstanding addition to East Suffolk and its Strategic Management Team.

He said: “Kate was the outstanding candidate in an incredibly strong field, and we are delighted to have secured her services. A recent LGA Peer Review of the Council indicated that we were making tremendous progress as an authority but lacked sufficient capacity and resilience at a senior level.

“Therefore, we are very pleased to have addressed one of their key recommendations, bringing someone to East Suffolk with a track record of success, delivering genuine outcomes for local people."

Kate will take up her post in February and is looking forward to the challenges ahead. She said: “While I am sad to be leaving Great Yarmouth, I am very excited about the challenges and opportunities that this role at East Suffolk will provide.

“This is a hugely ambitious council with a clear focus on improving people’s lives and I believe that my skills and experience at a senior level can contribute greatly to our future success.”
