Flood project online visitor centre open
The Lowestoft Flood Risk Management Project has launched a virtual visitor centre providing information about development and construction of the tidal flood walls and tidal barrier.
Using gaming technology, the virtual centre provides information about the history of the project, how it has progressed and the ways in which the project is providing opportunities for Lowestoft.
Information boards feature visualisations of how the flood defences will look and images of work that has already been completed. Visitors can ask questions using a chat facility, which will be collated and answered by the project team. Visitors can also share their views and concerns via a survey.
Cllr David Ritchie, East Suffolk Council’s cabinet member for Planning and Coastal Management said: “Flood protection is vital for Lowestoft, and this project will stimulate development and the creation of jobs by removing the obstacles caused by having areas vulnerable to tidal flooding. I am delighted to welcome members of the public to the Lowestoft Flood Risk Management Project Virtual Visitor Centre; this is a unique opportunity to find out more about the project, see what the defences will look like and share your views.”
Once complete, the Lowestoft Flood Risk Management Project will protect over 1,500 homes and businesses from the risk of flooding.
The centre will be open for the duration of the project and regularly updated with new information.
