Halesworth residents invited to free cooking workshops

Posted by on 10 March 2022 | Comments

Residents in Halesworth are invited to attend free community cooking workshops to learn new cooking skills, cook and eat healthy and affordable food and pick up tips on making food go further.

The cooking workshops are being delivered by Suffolk New College in partnership with East Suffolk Council, and have been funded by Halesworth ward councillor, Tony Goldson through his Enabling Communities Budget. The sessions are open to all in the local Halesworth community, including older children who are welcome to attend with their parents.

The workshops will be hosted at Suffolk New College Halesworth Campus at Harrisons Lane and will be run by a chef lecturer. The workshops will look at cooking healthily, catering for certain diets, batch cooking and budgeting and simple ways to make the most of your money. There will be both theory and practical elements to the workshops and participants can make meals that they can enjoy together and maybe take away too.

Cllr Goldson said: “This is an excellent opportunity for local people to learn new skills or refresh their knowledge by learning more about cooking nutritious and affordable meals and helping to look after themselves and their families.”

Sherry Storer, Head of Centre at Suffolk New College Halesworth Campus said: "Suffolk New College are delighted to be able to work in partnership to deliver this activity from our Halesworth Campus. We have a commitment to working with our community providing the residents of Halesworth a wide range of learning opportunities. This community-based activity will be the first of many and is a welcome addition to our 16-18 Further Education Offer and Leisure learning."

The 3-hour sessions will take place on Saturday mornings during April and May, with 10 places available on each session.

The sessions take place between 10am – 1pm on the following dates:

• Saturday 2 April
• Saturday 9 April
• Saturday 23 April
• Saturday 14 May
• Saturday 21 May
• Saturday 28 May
