Virtual public meetings will take place next month to provide information on the Lowestoft Flood Risk Management Project, which will provide flood protection to hundreds of homes and businesses in the town.

Members of the public are invited to attend one of the hour-long meetings which are being held in May to find out more about the project. The meetings will include a presentation from the project team and a chance to ask questions.

The virtual meetings will be held on:

  • • Tuesday 4th May at 10.00am, 1.00pm and 6.00pm
  • • Thursday 6th May at 10.00am and 6.00pm
  • • Monday 10th May to 10.00am, 1.00pm and 6.00pm

To book your place, please email charlotte.flight@eastsuffolk.gov.uk

Project Executive Karen Thomas said: “The Lowestoft Flood Risk Management Project is a once in a generation opportunity which, when complete, will provide flood protection to over 1500 homes and businesses and unlock economic development in the town.

“As society begins to reopen and construction begins on the tidal floodwalls, now is the ideal time to find out more about what the project entails and when key milestones will be, as well as ask questions.”

All three elements of the project; protection against river and rainfall flooding in Kirkley, the tidal floodwalls and a tidal barrier, are underway.

In April, preparatory site works began on Hamilton Road and Waveney Road ahead of the start of construction of the tidal floodwalls in May.
