Wooden footbridge to be removed

Posted by on 28 April 2022 | Comments

To ensure public safety, a wooden footbridge is scheduled to be removed next week.

The bridge, located between Nicholas Everitt Park and Burton Marsh (behind Pets Corner) in Oulton Broad, has fallen into a state of disrepair and will be removed on safety grounds.

The bridge will be removed on Wednesday 4 May and several surrounding footpaths will be temporarily closed between 4 and 6 May whilst work is carried out.

Plans are underway for the construction of a replacement bridge in due course.

Until recently, this formed part of an area that East Suffolk Council leased to a third party. East Suffolk Council has now taken over responsibility for the area with a remit to improve facilities. The Council is working closely with Oulton Broad Parish Council to identify where improvements are required in the area, with some already carried out to both the Lowestoft Rowing Club pontoon and the Harbourmaster’s Office.
