Young people to benefit from new funding scheme

Posted by on 13 October 2021 | Comments

A new funding scheme has been launched to encourage projects which benefit young people in East Suffolk – and which are successful will be decided by the very people they are for!

East Suffolk Council has today launched a new funding scheme, enabling community and voluntary groups in East Suffolk to apply for funding to provide projects for young people.

Offering grants of up to £1,500, the scheme is aimed at projects which directly benefits young people and can include delivering activities, purchasing equipment or providing interactive online sessions which help young people and families.

The scheme is part of the Council’s annual Youth Take Over Day, which sees young people getting involved in council activities by taking on adult roles and working directly with officers and councillors on making decisions.

This year, the Youth Take Over Day event is taking place virtually on 19 November, where students from local schools have been invited to attend for the opportunity to join the funding panel and get a deciding vote on which projects they would like to receive the funding.

Cllr Letitia Smith, Cabinet Member for Communities, Leisure and Tourism, said: “I am really pleased to announce the launch of this funding scheme, which will benefit young people in East Suffolk in so many ways. Not only will it enable local community and voluntary groups to deliver projects to support them, they also have a chance to get involved in deciding just where the funding will go. This is a fantastic opportunity for them to get an insight into what goes into making these decisions and have a say in the services and projects that directly affects them.”

The scheme offers grants up of up to £1,500 and applications must be submitted by 5 November 2021.
