Cllr Anthony Speca re-elected Chair of East Suffolk Council

Posted by on 22 May 2024 | Comments

East Suffolk Council has chosen its Chair and vice-Chair for the 2024/25 municipal year.

Cllr Anthony Speca, a Green councillor who represents the Bungay and Wainford ward, was re-elected to the role at the Annual Meeting of Full Council on Wednesday 22 May.

As Civic Head of the Council, Cllr Speca will represent the Council in all civic and ceremonial matters, as well as presiding over meetings to ensure that debate and decision-making takes place in line with the procedure rules in the Constitution.

Cllr Speca undertook the role in 2023-24 and spoke of his great honour to continue in service. He said:

“In my first year I promised that I would endeavour to be a Chair for all members, working together to accomplish good things for the Council and the district. I promise I will endeavour to preside over the Chamber in the same way during the next year and always prioritise healthy debate, not hate.”

Cllr Speca’s deputy for the 2024/25 municipal year will be Independent councillor for Saxmundham Cllr John Fisher who likewise begins a second year in the role.
