Council officers have taken part in a multi-agency day of action to improve community safety in Beccles.
Officers from East Suffolk Council’s Communities, Environmental Protection, Licensing, Food and Safety, Waste, Private Sector Housing and Corporate Fraud teams were joined by counterparts from Suffolk Police, Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service, East Suffolk Services Ltd and the Modern Slavery Advisor from Suffolk Police for the operation on Wednesday 19 June.
Organised by the East Suffolk Community Safety Partnership, the impact event saw partner agencies conduct a series of checks and inspections aimed at strengthening community safety through a day of collective activity.
Checks were carried out on potential abandoned vehicles, fly-tipping sites, spot-checks on food venues, taxi compliance checks, police provided a visible presence on foot patrol and carried out traffic speed and vehicle checks, while the fire service provided support with residential safety checks.
The event saw:
Nicole Rickard, Head of Communities and Leisure at East Suffolk Council said: “This successful day of targeted activity allowed partners to work together, carrying out checks and looking for ways to improve community safety in Beccles. As well as checking for compliance and safety issues, illegal activity and anti-social behaviour, we were also able to provide advice and guidance to residents and businesses, who welcomed the activity and we are grateful to those who took the time to raise any concerns.”
Inspector Mark Jackson of Suffolk Police said: “This was a great example of the police supporting the lead partners to address issues that are of concern to the community. We look forward to supporting these other agencies with similar events in the future.”
The event in Beccles follows similar events held in Lowestoft last month and Felixstowe last year.
