Work begins on new play area in Beccles

Posted by on 30 May 2023 | Comments

Work is underway on the transformation of a children’s play area at Beccles Common.

The refurbishment has been made possible thanks to a partnership between East Suffolk Council and Beccles Town Council.

Once complete, the new-look play area will feature a basket swing, cradle swing for toddlers, a me-to-you swing, a cargo climbing net, a toddler climbing unit with slide, and a junior climbing unit, with a climbing wall and slide.

Designed by eibe play Ltd, and aimed at toddlers and juniors, the play area should be open in time for the summer holidays. The existing play area will be closed for the duration of work, which began on Wednesday 24 May.

Katie Graham, East Suffolk Council cabinet member for communities, leisure and tourism, said:

“I’m delighted to see work get underway on the transformation of this popular play area into something fresh, up-to-date, and even more fun and engaging for local families and visitors to enjoy.”

Beccles Town Mayor, Christine Wheeler said:

“Beccles Town Council, as trustee of Beccles Fenland Charity Trust, are delighted that this joint project will provide a modern new play facility. We are happy that the natural materials being used are a good fit for this rural site.”
