Work is set to take place this month on replacing important safety markers on coastal structures in the north of the district.
East Suffolk Council’s Coastal Management Team have appointed Red7Marine to remove and install aids to navigation markers from Hopton to Lowestoft.
Red7Marine will be removing existing navigation markers on the end of groynes and installing navigation markers on new piles.
The work is being completed as part of the council’s statutory requirements to maintain the aids to navigation on East Suffolk’s beaches.
Works will take place along the seafront between Hopton and Ness Point in Lowestoft from Monday 18 August until Friday 29 August, including the weekend and bank holiday Monday.
There will be no impact on access to the beaches during this time, as works will be completed from a barge at sea.
Cllr Mark Packard, cabinet member for Planning and Coastal Management, said:
“This work is an important part of our commitment to ensure our coastal assets are working effectively, helping to maintain our beautiful coast. Undertaking regular maintenance such as this mean we can maximise the lifespan of our coastal navigation assets, ensuring that we make the most of every pound spent and achieve a better return on public investment.
“Although this will cause minimal disruption to beachgoers, we ask that members of the public avoid approaching the vessels, machinery and equipment in the sea and the area where work is taking place.”
This work supports the safeguarding of life and local economies by making sure that the council’s coastal assets are in the condition needed for continued protection. All work is subject to safe working conditions and is tide and weather condition dependent.
