Entries are now open to design a jersey fit for the front runner of Britain’s biggest cycle race when it returns to East Suffolk this September.
East Suffolk Council has launched a cycle jersey design competition to inspire local creativity as excitement builds towards the opening stage of the Lloyds Tour of Britain Men in East Suffolk on Tuesday 2 September.
Entries from three age categories – 11 and under, 12-17 years old and over 18s – will be judged by a cycling mad panel from East Suffolk Council, with a guest judge from British Cycling. The best design in each age category will be transformed into cycling jerseys by www.thecyclejersey.com.
The winners of each category will be invited to receive a prize on the podium at the Lloyds Tour of Britain Men Stage Finish in Southwold on Tuesday 2 September, and will receive their winning jersey by the end of September.
Cllr Sarah Whitelock, East Suffolk’s cabinet member for Communities, Culture, Leisure and Tourism, said: “We are delighted to be hosting the Grand Depart of this year’s Lloyds Tour of Britain Men and wanted to mark the occasion by getting local people involved in designing a cycle jersey that represents East Suffolk.
“Entrants might choose to incorporate local landmarks or scenery or just include the things that make East Suffolk special to them. I can’t wait to see all the creative designs.”
Jonathan Day, Managing Director, British Cycling Events said: "Cycling is known for its famous jerseys, so it is only appropriate that East Suffolk Council are once again running this great way for residents to get involved in the Lloyds Tour of Britain, to show off their design talents, and celebrate all that Suffolk has to offer. We look forward to seeing the winning designs in Southwold this September."
The competition is open to anyone, of any age, who lives or works in East Suffolk.
